Adagio in G minor by Nana Mouskouri

Adagio in G minor for strings and organ is a piece composed by Remo Giazotto and first published in 1958. It was supposedly based on a fragment from a Sonata in G minor by Tomaso Albinoni purportedly found amongst the ruins of the old Saxon State Library, Dresden, after it was firebombed by the Allies during World War II. It is usually referred to as "Albinoni's Adagio", or "Adagio in G minor by Albinoni, arranged by Giazotto", but it is Giazotto's original work, and contains no Albinoni material. The Adagio is most commonly orchestrated for string ensemble and organ, or string ensemble alone. This is a version with vocals by Nana Mouskouri from her album ONLY LOVE (1987). Nana Mouskouri (Greek: Nάνα Μούσχουρη), born on October 13, 1934, in Chania, Crete, Greece, is a singer who is confirmed to have sold over 300 million records worldwide in a career spanning over five decades, making her one of the world's best-selling female recording artists. She was known as Nana to her friends and family as a child. She has recorded in many different languages, including Greek, French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, and Welsh. Universal Music Group, which has come to acquire over the decades virtually all the labels under which Mouskouri recorded, claims that Nana Mouskouri has sold more than 300 million discs worldwide, recording about 1,500 songs in 15 languages on 450 albums. She has more than 230 gold and platinum albums worldwide. In 2006 she made a guest appearance at that year's Eurovision Song Contest which was held, for the first time ever, in her native Greece. In the same year, she announced her plans to retire soon. In 2008, she held a farewell concert tour of Europe, Australia, Asia, South America, the United States, and Canada. On July 24, 2008, Mouskouri gave her final stage performance at the ancient Herodes Atticus theatre, in Athens, Greece, before a packed stadium, including Greece's prime minister and the mayors of Berlin, Paris and Luxembourg.
